Ramaco Resources, Inc. Class A Common Stock represents an equity interest in a US producer focused primarily on metallurgical coal, the coal used in coke-making and blast-furnace steel production. The company’s mining platform is concentrated in Central Appalachia, with operations and development properties in southern West Virginia and southwestern Virginia. Its main assets include Elk Creek, Berwind, Knox Creek, and Maben, which are positioned to supply domestic steel mills, coke plants, and seaborne metallurgical coal customers.
Ramaco differs from diversified coal companies because its core business is tied to metallurgical coal rather than thermal coal used for power generation. Demand for its products is therefore closely linked to steel output, industrial activity, export markets, and pricing for high-quality coking coal. The company manages mining, processing, logistics, and sales across its portfolio, with access to established Appalachian coal infrastructure.
Beyond its coal operations, Ramaco also controls mineral interests near Sheridan, Wyoming, including the Brook Mine area. This gives the company exposure to early-stage opportunities in rare earth elements, critical minerals, and coal-derived carbon products. These activities are separate from, but potentially complementary to, its established metallurgical coal segment. For investors, METC is primarily a cyclical materials and mining stock, influenced by steelmaking coal prices, mine productivity, regulatory costs, and the company’s ability to develop newer mineral and carbon-based opportunities.
