Starbucks (SBUX)
Nasdaq Market Closed
Starbucks Corp is the world’s largest specialty coffee chain and one of the most recognisable consumer brands in foodservice. The company operates and licenses cafés across more than 80 markets, serving coffee, espresso beverages, teas, refreshers, food, and other products through a store base that spans urban centres, suburban retail locations, travel hubs, and drive-through formats. Its brand is built around premium coffee, highly customisable drinks, loyalty engagement, and consistent store experience.
The business combines company-operated stores with licensed locations. Company-run cafés generate revenue directly from beverage and food sales, while licensed stores contribute royalties, fees, and sales of products and equipment. Starbucks also earns revenue through its channel development activities, including packaged coffee, single-serve products, and ready-to-drink beverages sold outside its cafés. North America is its largest region, with international markets providing a major growth platform.
Starbucks’ competitive strength comes from its global scale, supply chain, digital ordering tools, rewards programme, and ability to turn seasonal drinks and menu innovation into recurring customer traffic. The company also operates premium formats such as Starbucks Reserve and roastery locations, which showcase sourcing, roasting, and craft beverage experiences.
SBUX is shaped by consumer spending trends, labour costs, commodity prices, store productivity, and brand relevance in an increasingly competitive coffee market. Its distinct position is that of a global café platform rather than a simple coffee retailer, connecting retail stores, mobile technology, packaged goods, and licensing partnerships under one widely known brand.
