Verisk Analytics is a specialist provider of data, software, and analytical tools for the property and casualty insurance industry. Its roots go back to Insurance Services Office, a US insurance advisory organization created in 1971 to help carriers standardize policy language, report information to regulators, and develop actuarial loss-cost data. The company later converted to a for-profit model, adopted the Verisk name, and listed publicly in 2009.
Verisk’s core business is built around information that insurers need to price risk, write policies, manage claims, and meet regulatory requirements. Its underwriting products include policy forms, rating rules, loss costs, risk scores, and catastrophe models used to assess exposures such as severe weather, natural disasters, and property damage. These tools help insurers evaluate both individual risks and broader portfolio concentrations.
On the claims side, Verisk provides technology for estimating property repair costs, detecting fraud, managing workflows, and improving settlement accuracy. Its platforms are widely embedded in insurer operations, which gives the company a recurring-revenue profile and high customer retention. The group also serves adjacent participants in the insurance ecosystem, including reinsurers, brokers, and claims service providers.
Verisk operates primarily through its insurance segment and generates most of its revenue in the United States, although its analytics and catastrophe-modeling capabilities have international relevance. The company’s competitive position rests on long-standing industry relationships, proprietary datasets, regulatory knowledge, and software that is integrated into mission-critical insurance processes.
