Aurora (AURORA)
Aurora is an Ethereum-compatible smart contract platform that runs on NEAR Protocol. It gives developers a way to deploy applications written for the Ethereum Virtual Machine while benefiting from NEAR’s high-throughput architecture, fast finality, and comparatively low transaction costs. The project is designed to reduce the friction of moving Ethereum-based decentralized applications to a more scalable environment without requiring teams to rewrite core Solidity code or abandon familiar tooling.
At the centre of Aurora is the Aurora Engine, an EVM implementation operating as a smart contract on NEAR. This structure allows Ethereum-style contracts, wallets, and developer frameworks to interact with NEAR’s infrastructure. Aurora also connects to the wider Ethereum ecosystem through bridging and interoperability tools, helping assets and users move between networks. For developers, the platform aims to provide a ready-made environment for DeFi protocols, NFT projects, gaming applications, DAOs, and other Web3 services that need Ethereum compatibility but want lower fees and more capacity.
The AURORA token is associated with governance and ecosystem participation. It supports the Aurora DAO, which helps guide protocol development and network-related decisions. Aurora’s broader value proposition is its position as a bridge between two major blockchain design approaches: Ethereum’s large application and developer base, and NEAR’s scalable, developer-oriented infrastructure. By combining EVM compatibility with NEAR’s performance features, Aurora targets projects that want to preserve access to Ethereum standards while improving user experience around speed, cost, and scalability.
