Moonbeam (GLMR)
Moonbeam is a smart contract platform built for the Polkadot ecosystem that aims to make it easier for Ethereum developers to deploy applications in a multi-chain environment. It is an Ethereum-compatible Layer 1 blockchain, meaning it supports familiar Ethereum tooling, accounts, keys, interfaces, logs, and Web3 RPC standards. This compatibility allows many decentralised applications to migrate or expand to Moonbeam with fewer changes than would be required on a non-EVM chain.
The network combines Ethereum-style development with Polkadot’s interoperability-focused architecture. As a parachain connected to Polkadot, Moonbeam is designed to interact with other chains in the ecosystem and support cross-chain use cases. Its feature set also includes staking, on-chain governance, and integrations that help applications communicate beyond a single blockchain. This makes Moonbeam relevant for developers building decentralised finance, NFT, gaming, and cross-chain infrastructure products.
GLMR is the native token of Moonbeam. It is used to pay transaction fees, support network operations, incentivise collators, participate in staking-related activity, and take part in governance. Token holders can influence protocol decisions through Moonbeam’s governance mechanisms, reflecting the project’s emphasis on community-led network development.
Moonbeam’s role is to reduce friction between Ethereum’s large developer base and Polkadot’s interoperable network design. Its success depends on sustained application activity, liquidity, cross-chain demand, and the broader adoption of Polkadot-based infrastructure in competitive smart contract markets.
