Airbnb, Inc. operates one of the world’s leading online travel marketplaces for short-term stays and alternative accommodation. Its platform connects guests with hosts offering homes, rooms, apartments, boutique lodging, and related travel experiences across a broad global footprint.
Airbnb’s marketplace model allows it to scale without owning most of the properties listed on its platform. Revenue is generated from service fees charged on bookings, making gross booking value, nights and experiences booked, average daily rates, and host supply important operating metrics.
The company is distinctive for broadening mainstream travel beyond traditional hotels and enabling individuals and professional hosts to monetise property.
