Agnico Eagle Mines (AEM)

Agnico Eagle has grown from a company once dominated by the LaRonde mine in Quebec into one of the world’s larger listed gold miners. A major step in that expansion was its 2022 merger with Kirkland Lake Gold, which added important assets including Detour Lake and Macassa in Canada and the high-grade Fosterville mine in Australia. In 2023, the company further strengthened its Canadian position by acquiring the remaining interest in Canadian Malartic, along with the Wasamac project and other assets from Yamana Gold.

The company’s strategy emphasises long-life mines, exploration upside and operational control in lower-risk regions. That approach differentiates Agnico Eagle from producers with heavier exposure to jurisdictions where permitting, fiscal stability or security can be more challenging. Its asset base includes established underground and open-pit operations, as well as projects that can extend mine life or support future production growth.

Agnico Eagle’s financial results are closely tied to the gold price, production volumes, operating costs, currency movements and capital spending requirements. The company reported gold sales of around 3.4 million ounces in 2025 and had approximately 15 years of gold reserves at the end of that year, reflecting the scale of its reserve base and the importance of continued exploration to its long-term investment case.
