MSC Income Fund (MSIF)

The fund’s primary objective is current income. It pursues that goal mainly through debt investments, including senior secured term loans, second lien loans and mezzanine debt. These instruments can sit at different points in a borrower’s capital structure, with senior secured loans generally backed by collateral and mezzanine financing typically carrying higher risk in exchange for higher potential income. MSC Income Fund may also make selected equity investments, which support its secondary objective of long-term capital appreciation.

As a non-diversified investment company, MSC Income Fund can hold a more concentrated portfolio than a diversified fund, making manager selection, underwriting discipline and credit monitoring especially important. Its returns are influenced by borrower performance, interest income, credit conditions, valuation changes and the ability to exit or realise gains from private investments.

The fund’s role in the market is to connect investor capital with established private companies that need financing for growth, acquisitions, refinancing or ownership transitions. For shareholders, it offers a route into an asset class that is usually less accessible than public equities or bonds. The trade-off is that the underlying investments can be illiquid, credit-sensitive and dependent on the health of smaller private businesses.
