Workday (WDAY)

Workday, Inc. is a cloud software company best known for enterprise applications that help large organisations manage people, money, and planning processes. Its core products cover human capital management, payroll-related workflows, financial management, analytics, and enterprise planning. The company’s Class A common stock trades under the symbol WDAY.
Founded in 2005 and headquartered in Pleasanton, California, Workday was built as a cloud-native alternative to older on-premise enterprise resource planning systems. Its software is delivered through a subscription model, allowing customers to access updates and functionality through the cloud rather than relying on large, periodic software installations. This architecture is central to Workday’s identity and helps it compete in a market where companies increasingly want integrated, scalable platforms for back-office operations.
Human capital management remains one of Workday’s most recognised areas. Its tools support functions such as employee records, talent management, workforce planning, compensation, and reporting. The company has also expanded deeper into finance, where its platform can be used for accounting, procurement, budgeting, and performance analysis. By combining HR and finance data, Workday aims to give executives a more unified view of their workforce costs, operational trends, and business plans.
Workday serves a broad enterprise customer base across industries including technology, healthcare, financial services, education, government, and retail. Its competitive landscape includes large software vendors such as Oracle, SAP, Microsoft, and other cloud application specialists. For investors, Workday is primarily a software-as-a-service growth company whose results depend on subscription revenue, customer retention, product innovation, and the continued migration of enterprise administration systems to the cloud.
