Aptos (APT)

The Aptos project is led by engineers and researchers with roots in the Diem initiative, which aimed to create a global blockchain-based payments network. After Diem was discontinued, parts of its technical work and talent base contributed to new independent projects, including Aptos. The Aptos mainnet launched in 2022 and has since positioned itself as a high-performance smart contract platform competing with other Layer 1 networks such as Ethereum, Solana, Sui, and Avalanche.

Aptos uses a proof-of-stake consensus model and is designed to support fast finality, parallel transaction execution, and upgradeable infrastructure. These features are intended to help the network handle applications that require high throughput, including decentralised exchanges, NFT platforms, gaming projects, social applications, and payments tools.

APT is the native token of the Aptos network. It is used for transaction fees, staking, validator incentives, and governance-related functions within the ecosystem. Token holders and validators help secure the chain, while developers use the network to deploy Move-based smart contracts.

Aptos has attracted venture backing from major crypto investors and has built an ecosystem of wallets, DeFi protocols, infrastructure providers, and consumer applications. Its long-term appeal depends on developer adoption, network activity, security, and its ability to differentiate itself in a crowded Layer 1 market.
