DigiByte (DGB)

DGB is the native currency of the DigiByte network. It is used for peer-to-peer payments, transaction fees, and value transfer across the blockchain. DigiByte uses the UTXO model, similar to Bitcoin, but targets faster settlement with block times of around 15 seconds. Its supply is capped at 21 billion DGB, a design intended to provide more manageable everyday units than assets with much smaller maximum supplies.

A major technical distinction of DigiByte is its multi-algorithm mining system. The network has historically used five proof-of-work algorithms to distribute mining activity across different types of hardware and reduce reliance on a single mining class. DigiByte has also implemented technologies such as DigiShield difficulty adjustment and SegWit, and it has supported privacy-oriented transaction relay improvements such as Dandelion++.

Beyond payments, DigiByte supports additional layers and tools. DigiAssets enables the issuance of tokens and digital representations of assets on top of the DigiByte blockchain, while Digi-ID provides a blockchain-based authentication method that uses public-key cryptography instead of traditional usernames and passwords. These features position DigiByte as more than a payment coin, giving it a broader role as infrastructure for digital assets, identity, and decentralised applications.
