H2O (H2O)

Traditional AMMs usually require liquidity providers to deposit two assets into a specific pair, such as token A against token B. That model can create many isolated pools, each with its own liquidity depth and pricing conditions. Hydration’s Omnipool takes a different approach by using H2O as the common accounting and routing asset. A trade between two non-H2O assets can be executed through the hub token in the background, allowing the pool to aggregate liquidity more effectively.

H2O also plays a role in the incentive and risk-management mechanics of the Omnipool. Transaction fees generated by trading activity are paid in H2O, and the asset is also used in partial impermanent loss mitigation. Impermanent loss is a key risk for liquidity providers in AMMs, especially when the relative prices of deposited assets move significantly. By incorporating H2O into its mitigation framework, the Omnipool attempts to make liquidity provision more attractive while maintaining a flexible market structure.

The project is closely tied to Hydration’s broader decentralized finance ecosystem, which focuses on efficient on-chain trading and liquidity infrastructure. H2O’s distinctive function is not simply to act as a standalone token, but to serve as the central routing and settlement component that supports the Omnipool’s multi-asset liquidity design.
