Prothena (PRTA)

Prothena’s research is aimed at conditions where abnormal proteins accumulate in the brain, heart, nerves, or other tissues and contribute to progressive disease. Its pipeline includes programs for Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, amyloidosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and other disorders with significant unmet medical need. The company uses internal discovery capabilities and proprietary technologies, including its CYTOPE approach, to identify disease-relevant protein targets and design therapies intended to modify disease biology rather than only manage symptoms.

Several of Prothena’s most visible programs are partnered with larger pharmaceutical companies. Prasinezumab, an antibody targeting alpha-synuclein for Parkinson’s disease, is partnered with Roche. BMS-986446, also known as PRX005, targets tau and is associated with Bristol Myers Squibb. The company also advances wholly owned or controlled assets such as coramitug, formerly PRX004, for ATTR amyloidosis with cardiomyopathy, and PRX012, an Alzheimer’s disease candidate directed at amyloid beta.
