Harmony (ONE)
Harmony is a Layer 1 blockchain network that uses the ONE token to coordinate activity across its ecosystem. The project is designed for low-cost, high-throughput transactions and has historically emphasized scalability, fast finality, and compatibility with decentralized applications. Harmony supports smart contracts and is positioned as infrastructure for open marketplaces, DeFi applications, games, and both fungible and non-fungible digital assets.
The ONE token is central to how the network operates. Users pay transaction, gas, and storage fees in ONE, while validators and delegators stake the token to participate in proof-of-stake consensus and earn network rewards. The token also supports governance, allowing participants to vote on decisions affecting the protocol. This design aligns the incentives of developers, validators, investors, and community members around the security and use of the chain.
Harmony is best known for its focus on scaling blockchain performance through techniques such as sharding and efficient consensus. Its architecture aims to process activity across multiple parts of the network rather than relying on a single congested execution environment. The project has also explored privacy and data-sharing use cases, including the potential use of zero-knowledge proofs to let parties verify information without disclosing all of the underlying data.
For users and developers, Harmony’s appeal lies in its attempt to combine affordability, speed, and open participation. ONE functions as the economic asset that pays for computation, secures validators through staking, and gives the community a mechanism to influence the network’s future direction.
