Sky Protocol operates through smart contracts rather than a conventional financial intermediary. Users can interact with its products while retaining control of their crypto assets, and the system relies on governance to manage risk parameters, incentives, upgrades, and other major protocol decisions. USDS is the stable asset used for savings and liquidity, while SKY gives holders a voice in how the protocol develops. In this sense, SKY functions less like a claim on a company and more like a voting instrument for a decentralised financial network.

The token also has a role in the protocol’s staking and reward design. Holders can use SKY within the Staking Engine, where participation helps align incentives across the ecosystem and may provide access to rewards and borrowing features connected to USDS. SkyLink extends the protocol’s reach across supported blockchains, aiming to make movement of funds cheaper and more convenient without undermining self-custody.

What distinguishes SKY is its connection to one of DeFi’s longest-running stablecoin lineages. It represents the governance layer for a system focused on decentralised stable savings, cross-chain access, and community-directed protocol management.
