Alector, Inc. is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing potential treatments for neurodegenerative disorders, with a particular focus on diseases where immune dysfunction and impaired protein clearance are believed to contribute to neurological decline. The company is based on the idea that modulating the brain’s immune system may help address conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Lewy body dementia, and related tauopathies.
Alector’s pipeline includes nivisnebart, also known as AL101 or GSK4527226, which is being developed for Alzheimer’s disease in collaboration with GSK. The company is also advancing AL137 for Alzheimer’s disease, AL050 for Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia, and AL064, an siRNA-based programme targeting tau for Alzheimer’s disease and other disorders associated with abnormal tau pathology. These candidates are designed to intervene in complex biological pathways linked to neurodegeneration rather than simply treating symptoms.
A distinctive part of Alector’s strategy is its proprietary Alector Brain Carrier, or ABC, platform. The technology is intended to improve the transport of therapeutic molecules across the blood-brain barrier, a major obstacle in the development of medicines for central nervous system diseases. By combining disease-biology expertise with delivery technology, Alector aims to build a portfolio of therapies capable of reaching relevant targets in the brain.
As a clinical-stage company, Alector does not have the same commercial profile as a mature pharmaceutical business. Its value is closely tied to clinical trial progress, regulatory outcomes, partnership economics, and the broader market’s assessment of risk in neuroscience drug development.
