GE Aerospace (GE)
NYSE Market Closed
GE Aerospace is a leading global manufacturer and servicer of aircraft engines and aviation systems. The company is the core remaining business of General Electric, the industrial group founded in the late 19th century and historically associated with Thomas Edison. After years of portfolio reshaping and the separation of GE’s healthcare, energy, finance, appliances, and other operations, GE Aerospace now stands as a focused aviation company.
Its business is built around the design, production, and long-term maintenance of commercial and military jet engines. In commercial aviation, GE Aerospace and Safran jointly own CFM International, the engine partnership behind widely used CFM and LEAP engine families for narrow-body aircraft. GE also supplies engines for wide-body aircraft and provides technologies used across propulsion, avionics, and aircraft systems. On the defence side, it serves military aircraft programmes with engines and related services.
A defining feature of GE Aerospace is its large installed base of engines in service around the world. Aircraft engines remain in operation for decades and require regular maintenance, spare parts, overhauls, and technical support. As a result, the company earns a significant share of its profit from high-value aftermarket services rather than only from new engine sales. This creates a recurring revenue profile linked to flight activity, airline fleet utilisation, and the long service lives of commercial and military aircraft.
GE is therefore closely tied to global air travel, aircraft production cycles, defence spending, and engine technology. For investors, GE Aerospace represents a pure-play exposure to aviation propulsion, aftermarket services, and the continued modernisation of airline and military fleets.
