Lyft (LYFT)
Nasdaq Market Closed
Lyft, Inc. operates a transportation network that connects riders and drivers through its mobile app, primarily in the United States and Canada. The company is one of the largest ride-hailing platforms in North America and competes in a market shaped by consumer mobility trends, driver supply, pricing, local regulation and urban transportation policy.
The Lyft app allows users to request rides from nearby drivers using personal vehicles. Its service mix includes standard rides, higher-capacity options, premium rides and other trip types designed for different price points and use cases. The company also serves businesses and organizations through products that support employee travel, healthcare transportation, event movement and other managed mobility needs.
Beyond traditional ride-hailing, Lyft has expanded into multimodal transportation. It participates in bike-share and scooter-share programs in selected cities, giving users alternatives for shorter urban trips and helping the company position its platform as more than a point-to-point car service. This broader approach links Lyft to city transportation networks, commuting patterns and demand for flexible mobility.
Founded in 2013 and public since 2019, Lyft generates revenue mainly from fees and commissions tied to rides arranged through its marketplace. Its performance depends on balancing rider demand with driver earnings, maintaining competitive service levels and improving operating efficiency. For investors, Lyft represents exposure to app-based transportation, the gig-economy labor model and the long-term evolution of urban mobility in North America.
