TFI International (TFII)

TFI reports through three main segments: Less-Than-Truckload, Truckload, and Logistics. Less-Than-Truckload is the largest contributor and focuses on shipments that do not require a full trailer. In this model, freight from multiple customers is collected, consolidated through terminals, transported across a network, and delivered to final destinations. TFI’s US LTL presence expanded significantly through the acquisition of UPS Freight, which became TForce Freight.

The Truckload segment carries full trailer loads directly from origin to destination using dry vans, specialized equipment, or other configurations tailored to customer needs. This business is more closely linked to industrial production, retail flows, and broader freight cycles, with profitability influenced by capacity, fuel costs, pricing, and utilization.

TFI’s Logistics segment is more asset-light and includes brokerage, freight forwarding, transportation management, and small package parcel services. This gives the company a role beyond owning trucks and terminals, as it can coordinate freight across third-party carriers and optimize shipping for customers. TFI is also known for a disciplined, acquisition-led operating strategy, using decentralized management and cost control to build scale across fragmented freight markets.
