Wabtec (WAB)
NYSE Market Closed
Wabtec Inc., formally Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies Corporation, supplies equipment, technology, components, and services to the global rail industry and selected industrial markets. The company serves freight railroads, passenger transit operators, mining customers, marine operators, and other industrial users that depend on heavy-duty transportation systems. Its products are designed to improve safety, efficiency, reliability, and asset performance across complex transport networks.
The business is organised mainly around Freight and Transit. The Freight segment is the larger revenue contributor and includes new and modernised locomotives, locomotive parts, digital systems, braking equipment, freight-car components, and maintenance services. Wabtec also provides rail control and infrastructure products, including signalling, electronics, positive train control equipment, design work, and engineering services. These offerings place the company at the centre of both rolling stock and the systems that help rail networks operate safely.
The Transit segment supplies products and services for passenger rail, metro, and bus systems. Its portfolio includes doors, brakes, heating and cooling systems, monitoring technology, and aftermarket support. Demand in this business is linked to public transport investment, fleet renewal, and the need for reliable urban mobility infrastructure.
Wabtec has a strong presence in the United States, while also serving customers internationally. Its market position is supported by an installed base of locomotives and rail equipment that requires ongoing service, replacement parts, and upgrades. The company is also exposed to long-term themes such as rail efficiency, emissions reduction, automation, and digital monitoring. For investors, Wabtec represents a specialised industrial supplier with deep ties to freight transportation, passenger transit, and the modernisation of rail infrastructure.
