AIG’s general insurance operations include commercial lines such as liability, property, financial lines, specialty risk, marine, aviation, and multinational coverage. The company also participates in personal insurance markets in selected regions. Its scale and international footprint allow it to serve large corporate clients with complex risks that may span multiple countries, regulatory systems, and insurance products.

The company has reshaped its business in recent years by separating much of its life and retirement operation into Corebridge Financial. AIG no longer operates as the same broad financial services conglomerate it once was, but it retains an economic interest in Corebridge through a minority stake. This restructuring has made AIG more focused on underwriting performance, risk selection, capital allocation, and the profitability of its property and casualty franchise.

AIG’s results are influenced by premium pricing, claims trends, catastrophe losses, reinsurance costs, investment income, and reserve development. As with other large insurers, higher interest rates can support income from its investment portfolio, while major natural disasters or adverse claims inflation can weigh on earnings.
