Dow (DOW)
NYSE Market Closed
Dow Inc. is one of the world’s major chemical producers, supplying materials that are used across packaging, infrastructure, mobility, consumer goods, electronics, agriculture, and industrial applications. The company was formed as a standalone public company in 2019 following the DowDuPont separation, carrying forward a long legacy in commodity and specialty chemicals under the Dow name.
Dow’s portfolio is built around large-scale chemical manufacturing, with key products including polyethylene, polyurethanes, silicones, coatings materials, industrial intermediates, and performance materials. These products are not usually sold directly to consumers; instead, they are used by manufacturers to make films, containers, adhesives, sealants, insulation, automotive parts, personal care products, appliances, construction materials, and many other finished goods. Its scale and integrated production assets are central to its competitive position in global chemicals.
The company operates across international markets and is closely tied to the economics of feedstocks, energy prices, manufacturing activity, and global demand for plastics and industrial materials. In businesses such as polyethylene and other basic chemicals, profitability can move with industry supply-and-demand cycles. In performance materials and specialty applications, Dow seeks to differentiate through formulation expertise, customer relationships, and technical support.
Dow is also part of broader industry discussions around sustainability, plastics recycling, emissions reduction, and the transition to lower-carbon manufacturing. Its products are essential to many modern supply chains, but the company also faces regulatory, environmental, and cyclical pressures typical of the chemical sector. For investors, Dow provides exposure to global industrial production, consumer packaging demand, construction activity, and the economics of large-scale petrochemical manufacturing.
