Procter & Gamble (PG)
NYSEMarket Closed
Procter & Gamble Company is one of the world’s largest consumer staples businesses, with a portfolio of household and personal care brands used by consumers in many major markets. Founded in 1837, the company has developed a global operating model built on brand investment, product innovation, large-scale manufacturing, and extensive retail distribution. Its products are sold through supermarkets, pharmacies, mass merchants, e-commerce platforms, club stores, and other retail channels.
P&G’s portfolio spans several everyday categories, including fabric and home care, baby and feminine care, grooming, health care, and beauty. Well-known brands include Tide, Ariel, Downy, Pampers, Always, Gillette, Venus, Pantene, Head & Shoulders, Olay, Oral-B, Crest, Charmin, Bounty, and Febreze. Many of these brands hold leading positions in their categories, supported by decades of advertising, consumer research, and product development.
The company’s scale is a key feature of the investment case. P&G can spread marketing, procurement, research, and supply-chain costs across a very large revenue base, while its focus on essential consumer products can make demand more resilient than in many discretionary industries. At the same time, it faces constant pressure from private-label competitors, changing consumer preferences, currency movements, commodity costs, and retailer bargaining power.
A significant share of Procter & Gamble’s sales comes from outside the United States, giving the company broad exposure to both developed and emerging markets. For investors, PG is widely viewed as a mature global consumer defensive stock, distinguished by its brand strength, category breadth, cash generation, and long history of returning capital to shareholders.
