The company’s business model is based on long-term lease agreements for tower space. A single tower can host equipment from multiple carriers, allowing Crown Castle to earn incremental revenue as tenants add capacity or new tenants are colocated on existing structures. Its customer base is highly concentrated, with the largest US wireless providers—Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T—accounting for the vast majority of revenue. This concentration reflects the structure of the US mobile market and the strategic importance of nationwide tower infrastructure.

Crown Castle has also operated fiber and small-cell assets, but it has announced plans to divest the fiber business, with the process expected to leave the company more focused on towers. As a stand-alone tower operator, its performance is tied to carrier capital spending, network densification, 5G deployment, and the ongoing growth of mobile data consumption.

Because it is a REIT, Crown Castle is commonly evaluated through the lens of recurring rental revenue, site leasing activity, capital requirements, interest rates, and dividend capacity. Its domestic focus distinguishes it from some global tower peers and gives investors targeted exposure to US wireless infrastructure.
