Derive (DRV)
Derive is a decentralized derivatives protocol focused on bringing options, perpetual futures, and structured products fully onchain. The project operates on Derive Chain, an Ethereum layer-2 rollup built with the OP Stack, which gives the protocol its own execution environment while remaining connected to the wider Ethereum ecosystem. Its smart contracts are permissionless, allowing traders and builders to interact with programmable derivatives infrastructure without relying on a centralized venue.
The protocol is designed for markets that require more flexibility than simple spot trading. On Derive, users can access instruments such as onchain options and perps, while developers can build products that package derivatives strategies into structured positions. This makes the project part of the broader DeFi push to recreate sophisticated trading and risk-management tools in a transparent, self-custodial format.
DRV is the governance token of the Derive ecosystem. Token holders participate in the Derive DAO, which oversees protocol and chain-level decisions. The DAO’s economics are linked to activity on the trading protocol and the rollup, including trading-related fees and gas fees, while an insurance fund is used to strengthen resilience around market activity and settlement.
Derive also targets professional traders through Derive Pro, an AI-assisted trading application developed with Messari. The app is intended to convert market views into executable trades, prepare transactions, and use smart contract wallets to simplify execution. Its planned scope includes spot, perpetuals, and options on Derive, along with connectivity to spot AMMs on layer-2 networks such as Optimism, Arbitrum, and Base.
