Flare (FLR)
Flare is an EVM-compatible layer 1 blockchain designed to bring decentralized data from other blockchains and the wider internet into smart contract applications. Rather than focusing only on transaction execution, Flare’s core proposition is data connectivity: it aims to give developers reliable access to external information without depending on a single centralized oracle or bridge provider. This makes the network relevant for applications that need prices, event data, cross-chain state, or other off-chain inputs.
Two native protocols are central to Flare’s design. The Flare Time Series Oracle, or FTSO, supplies decentralized data feeds, including market prices, through a network of independent data providers. The State Connector is built to verify information from external blockchains and internet sources so it can be used by smart contracts on Flare. By embedding these functions at the network level, Flare seeks to reduce reliance on separate middleware and create a more integrated environment for interoperable decentralized applications.
Because Flare supports the Ethereum Virtual Machine, developers can use familiar Solidity-based tools and build applications that resemble those on other EVM networks. Potential use cases include decentralized finance, cross-chain asset applications, insurance, gaming, and data-driven automation where smart contracts need trustworthy information from outside their own chain.
FLR is the network’s native token. It is used to pay transaction fees, help protect the network from spam, and participate in staking and validation. Holders can also wrap FLR into WFLR, an ERC-20-style representation used in governance and for delegation to FTSO data providers. Flare’s role in the crypto market is defined by its effort to make blockchains more interoperable and data-aware.
