This type of cover focuses on unintended behavior in smart contract code and does not generally apply to broader operational risks such as losing a private key, sending funds to the wrong address, or an exchange account being compromised. Nexus Mutual has also expanded into other cover categories, including products aimed at custodians, centralized lenders, and protocol-specific risks where members are willing to underwrite exposure.

NXM is central to the mutual’s economics. Members use it to participate in governance, stake on risks they believe are sound, and support the capital pool that backs active cover. Because Nexus Mutual is structured as a regulated mutual, direct NXM ownership is subject to membership requirements, while wrapped versions such as wNXM have historically allowed broader market trading.
