Solana (SOL)

The network combines proof of stake with Proof of History, a time-ordering mechanism that helps validators agree on the sequence of events more efficiently. Solana’s runtime is designed to process many non-conflicting transactions in parallel, while other network-level optimisations help reduce latency and keep fees low. This architecture has made Solana known for fast block times, sub-cent transaction costs in normal conditions, and an active developer ecosystem.

SOL is the native asset of the Solana network. It is used to pay transaction fees, can be staked with validators to help secure consensus, and functions as the principal unit of value across Solana-based applications. The token is also widely used in decentralised finance, NFT markets, liquid staking protocols, stablecoin settlement, and trading infrastructure built on the chain.

Solana was founded by Anatoly Yakovenko and other early contributors, with ecosystem development supported by the Solana Foundation. The chain has attracted venture-backed teams, open-source developers, and institutional experimentation, including stablecoin payments and tokenised asset initiatives. Its main distinction is the attempt to deliver speed, low cost, and composability on one shared Layer 1 network.
