Cummins Inc. is a global power technology company best known for engines used in commercial vehicles, industrial equipment, rail, marine, mining, construction, and power generation markets. Its core business includes diesel, natural gas, and other internal combustion engines for medium- and heavy-duty trucks, buses, off-highway machinery, and locomotives, as well as generator sets for standby and prime power applications.
The company also supplies a broad range of powertrain and engine-related components, including turbochargers, filtration systems, emissions aftertreatment, fuel systems, electronics, and automated transmissions. This gives Cummins exposure not only to original equipment sales but also to replacement parts, service, and lifecycle support. Its distribution network spans hundreds of distributors and thousands of dealer locations across nearly every major region, making aftersales support a key part of the company’s competitive position.
Cummins has an unusual role in the truck supply chain because it both serves and competes with major truck manufacturers, many of which build engines of their own. That position requires strong product reliability, regulatory expertise, and customer relationships. Outside North America, Cummins often operates through joint ventures, particularly in large markets such as China and India, where local partnerships help it reach commercial and industrial customers.
Alongside its established engine and power systems operations, Cummins is investing in lower-emission technologies through businesses focused on batteries, fuel cells, hydrogen production, and electrified powertrains. The company remains closely tied to freight activity, infrastructure spending, energy demand, and emissions regulation worldwide.
