Johnson Controls International plc is a global building technology company focused on the systems that make commercial properties safer, more efficient, and easier to operate. Following the sale of its residential and light commercial HVAC operations to Bosch in 2025, the company is primarily oriented around two large end markets: commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, and fire, security, and building controls.
Its HVAC portfolio includes chillers, air-handling systems, controls, and related equipment used in offices, hospitals, schools, factories, data centres, and other large facilities. The fire and security side of the business provides detection, suppression, access control, intrusion, video surveillance, and monitoring solutions. Johnson Controls also offers installation, maintenance, retrofit, and lifecycle services, giving it recurring exposure to the installed base of buildings it supports.
The modern company was shaped by the 2016 combination of Johnson Controls and Tyco, which brought together a major HVAC franchise with a broad fire and security platform. The strategic logic is to serve building owners with a wider range of connected products and services from a single provider, particularly as customers invest in energy efficiency, decarbonisation, and smart-building automation.
Johnson Controls’ revenue is balanced across equipment sales, project installation, and service activity, which helps it participate in both new construction and the ongoing modernisation of existing buildings. Its competitive position rests on global scale, recognised brands, engineering expertise, and long-term relationships with commercial and institutional customers.
