The Trade Desk, Inc. is an advertising technology company that operates a demand-side platform, or DSP, for buyers of digital advertising. Its self-service software helps advertisers and agencies plan, purchase, measure, and optimize ad campaigns across a wide range of digital channels, including display, video, audio, mobile, and connected television.
The company sits on the buy side of the programmatic advertising market. Instead of owning media inventory, The Trade Desk gives clients tools to bid for impressions through automated auctions and data-driven decisioning. Advertisers can use the platform to target audiences, manage budgets, evaluate performance, and adjust campaigns in real time across publishers, streaming services, apps, and other digital environments. The Trade Desk typically earns revenue by charging fees linked to customer advertising spend.
Connected TV is a major area of strategic importance for the company as more viewing shifts from traditional linear television to streaming platforms. The Trade Desk has also promoted open internet advertising alternatives to closed ecosystems operated by large technology platforms. Its Unified ID 2.0 initiative is intended to support privacy-conscious identity and ad targeting as cookies and other legacy identifiers become less reliable.
What distinguishes The Trade Desk is its independence and focus on serving advertisers rather than media owners. Agencies and brands use the platform to reach audiences across multiple channels without being tied to a single walled garden. For investors, the company offers exposure to the continued automation of ad buying, the growth of digital video and streaming, and the broader shift toward data-led marketing.
