Nervos Network (CKB)

CKB, the network’s native asset, has a distinctive role in this design. It is used in transaction fees and incentives, but it also represents storage capacity on the layer 1 blockchain. This means holding CKB is linked to the ability to occupy state on the network, aligning the token with Nervos’s goal of treating blockchain space as a scarce resource that should remain sustainable over time.

Nervos CKB uses a proof-of-work consensus model and a cell-based accounting structure inspired by Bitcoin’s UTXO approach, while supporting more flexible smart contract functionality. The network is built to custody assets, identities, and other shared data that applications can rely on across different layers or systems.

The broader Nervos vision is interoperability and durable value storage rather than only fast transaction execution on a single chain. By placing high-performance activity on separate layers and preserving the base chain for security and common knowledge, Nervos aims to support decentralised applications, cross-chain assets, and blockchain infrastructure that can remain reliable over the long term.
