Caldera (ERA)

Rollups are a central part of Ethereum’s scaling roadmap. They process transactions outside the Ethereum base layer and then publish data or proofs back to Ethereum, increasing throughput and reducing costs. Caldera focuses on making this model easier for developers to adopt by offering rollup deployment and management tools. Projects can use the platform to launch dedicated chains for gaming, DeFi, social applications, infrastructure, or other on-chain products without building the full stack from scratch.

A defining feature of Caldera is its emphasis on interoperability between rollups. The project introduces the Metalayer, a coordination layer intended to connect rollups built with different technologies, including Optimistic and Zero-Knowledge frameworks. This matters because the rapid growth of rollups can create fragmentation, with assets, users, and applications spread across many separate execution environments. Caldera’s approach seeks to preserve the benefits of custom chains while making them easier to link together.

ERA is the crypto asset associated with Caldera’s ecosystem. The project’s broader role is to support horizontal scaling: instead of forcing all activity onto one chain, it enables many specialised rollups to operate in parallel and communicate more effectively.
