Ontology Gas (ONG)

Ontology Gas (ONG) is the utility token that powers transactions and network activity on the Ontology blockchain. Ontology uses a dual-token model in which ONT represents the network’s governance and staking asset, while ONG is consumed when users execute smart contracts, transfer assets, or access other on-chain services. This separation is designed to distinguish long-term participation in consensus from day-to-day usage costs across the blockchain.

ONG began circulating after the Ontology mainnet launched in June 2018, with ONT holders receiving ONG over time according to the network’s token economics. Validators and delegators interact with the system through staking and consensus processes, while ONG provides the operational fuel needed to keep applications and transactions moving. In this respect, it plays a role similar to gas tokens on other smart contract platforms.

The Ontology ecosystem focuses on high-performance public blockchain infrastructure, digital identity, data exchange, and trust-based collaboration between different participants and systems.
