Ripple USD (RLUSD)
Ripple USD (RLUSD) is a US dollar stablecoin issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company, LLC, a regulated trust company that is wholly owned by Ripple Labs. The token is designed to represent digital dollars on blockchain networks, with each RLUSD intended to be backed by at least an equivalent value of US dollars, cash equivalents, or similarly liquid reserve assets.
RLUSD sits within Ripple’s broader payments and digital asset infrastructure business. Ripple is best known for building blockchain-based products for cross-border settlement, liquidity management, and enterprise payments, and the stablecoin extends that focus by providing a dollar-denominated asset that can move on-chain. For institutions, developers, and payment companies, RLUSD aims to combine the price stability of the US dollar with the speed, programmability, and global availability of public blockchain rails.
The project’s emphasis is on compliance, liquidity, and trust. Ripple markets RLUSD as a stablecoin built for financial use cases where counterparties require transparency around issuance, redemption, and regulatory oversight. Its potential applications include international payments, on-chain settlement, trading pairs, treasury operations, and integration into decentralised or enterprise blockchain applications.
Unlike volatile crypto assets, RLUSD is not designed primarily as a speculative token. Its role is to function as a stable medium of exchange and settlement asset within digital markets. Its distinctiveness comes from Ripple’s existing institutional network, its long-running presence in blockchain payments, and the company’s focus on regulated infrastructure for moving value across borders.
