Virtuals Protocol (VIRTUAL)

The VIRTUAL token is central to the ecosystem. It functions as the main currency for agent creation, trading, and user interactions, and is used as the base liquidity asset for agent tokens. New agents are introduced through a bonding-curve model, where users can buy and sell the agent’s token before it reaches a defined liquidity threshold and moves into a permanent pool paired with VIRTUAL. This structure is designed to connect early community demand with ongoing market liquidity.

Virtuals Protocol originally gained traction on Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 network, and has expanded its presence across additional chains including Ethereum mainnet, Solana, and Ronin. Its agents can be multimodal, combining text, voice, memory, animation, and wallet-based actions. The project’s GAME framework supports agent behaviour by helping agents process inputs, respond to users, and retain context from earlier interactions.

The project evolved from PathDAO, a gaming guild founded in 2021, before pivoting toward AI agents in 2024. Virtuals also supports token-holder participation through staking and veVIRTUAL governance. Fees generated from agent interactions are part of the protocol’s economic model, with buyback-and-burn mechanics intended to link ecosystem activity to VIRTUAL token value.
