Verge (XVG)

Verge is designed for peer-to-peer payments with additional privacy tools layered around user connectivity. Unlike Bitcoin, where transactions are publicly visible and network activity can sometimes be linked to IP data, Verge integrates anonymity networks such as Tor and I2P to help obscure users’ locations when interacting with the blockchain. Its wallets have included Tor support, and the project has promoted optional privacy features intended to give users more control over how they send and receive funds.

The network also introduced Wraith Protocol, a set of privacy-related wallet and transaction features associated with stealth addressing and the ability to choose between more transparent and more private transaction modes. Verge’s approach is not the same as privacy coins that hide all transaction values by default; instead, it emphasises practical payment use and network-level anonymity tools.

Verge is secured through proof-of-work mining and is known for supporting multiple mining algorithms, including Scrypt, X17, Lyra2rev2, myr-groestl, and blake2s. This multi-algorithm design aims to widen participation by allowing different types of mining hardware to contribute to the network. XVG is used as the native currency for transfers, wallet payments, and network incentives.
