Gentex Corp is a Michigan-based automotive technology supplier best known for its automatic-dimming mirrors and related vehicle electronics. The company began in 1974 as a maker of smoke-detection products, then moved into automotive glare-control mirrors in the early 1980s. Its adoption of electrochromic technology in 1987 became the foundation for a large global business supplying interior and exterior mirrors to vehicle manufacturers.
Automotive products remain the core of Gentex’s revenue base. Its mirrors use sensors and electrochromic glass to reduce headlight glare, improving driver visibility and comfort. The company has expanded beyond basic mirror functions into integrated features such as cameras, displays, lighting, connectivity, and vehicle access technologies. This gives Gentex exposure to long-running trends in vehicle safety, comfort, and digital cockpit design.
In 2025, automotive revenue accounted for about 89% of total revenue, compared with 98% in 2024, reflecting the impact of the Voxx acquisition completed in April 2025. Sales totaled about $2.5 billion, and the company shipped 44.8 million mirrors. Interior mirrors still represented the majority of shipments at 64%, while exterior mirrors accounted for 36%, up from 31% in 2019.
Gentex is headquartered in Zeeland, Michigan, and serves a global automotive customer base. Its competitive position is built on specialized manufacturing know-how, long relationships with automakers, and continued investment in new applications for optical, sensing, and electronic technologies.
