Zilliqa (ZIL)

The ZIL token is the native asset of the Zilliqa network. It is used to pay transaction fees, support smart contract execution, and participate in network incentives such as staking. Zilliqa’s architecture is intended to provide a faster and more predictable environment for developers building decentralised applications, particularly where high fees or congestion on older blockchains can make user-facing products difficult to operate.

Zilliqa also supports smart contracts through Scilla, a programming language designed with security and formal verification principles in mind. This reflects the project’s focus on reducing common vulnerabilities in decentralised applications while maintaining performance. Over time, the ecosystem has expanded into areas such as decentralised finance, gaming, creator tools, and tokenised assets.

While many blockchain networks now use rollups, sidechains, or modular designs to improve performance, Zilliqa’s original approach places sharding directly within the protocol.
