GMT (GMT)
GMT is the governance token associated with STEPN, a Web3 lifestyle application that combines fitness tracking with blockchain-based rewards and digital collectibles. STEPN popularised the “move-to-earn” concept, where users equip NFT sneakers and earn in-app rewards by walking, jogging, or running outdoors. The application blends elements of gaming, social engagement, and crypto economics, using token incentives to encourage physical activity.
STEPN operates with a dual-token model. GST is generally used as the in-app utility and reward token, while GMT has a broader governance and value-accrual role within the ecosystem. GMT has a capped supply of 6 billion tokens and is used for governance participation as well as selected in-app functions. Users may spend or burn GMT to access advanced features, such as sneaker-related upgrades, high-quality gem improvements, and other progression mechanics within the app.
The project was created by Find Satoshi Lab, an Australia-linked fintech and Web3 studio. STEPN first gained attention after winning the gaming track at the Solana Ignition Hackathon in 2021, and it has since become one of the better-known consumer-facing crypto applications. Its marketplace allows users to trade or lease NFT sneakers, while the app includes wallet and swap features to manage earned assets.
GMT’s relevance is closely tied to STEPN’s ability to retain users, balance token incentives, and keep its fitness-based gameplay engaging. Like many GameFi and SocialFi assets, it sits at the intersection of digital ownership, behavioural incentives, and mobile consumer applications.
