IOTA (IOTA)

The project’s core idea is that connected devices, sensors, vehicles, and industrial systems may need a shared settlement and data layer that is lightweight enough for automated use. In the IOTA model, participants help validate other transactions when they issue their own, creating a system that aims to become more efficient as activity rises. This differs from traditional proof-of-work blockchains, where miners compete to add blocks and users often pay variable fees for inclusion.

IOTA has long targeted use cases in IoT, smart cities, digital identity, supply chains, mobility, and industrial data exchange. Its ledger can be used not only to transfer value but also to anchor data so that information shared between organizations or machines can be checked for authenticity and tampering.

The project is developed around open-source infrastructure and has been associated with research into feeless transactions, scalable ledger design, and post-quantum cryptographic considerations. IOTA’s distinctive role in the crypto market comes from its attempt to serve as a foundational protocol for connected economies, where billions of devices may need to exchange value and trusted data without relying on centralized intermediaries or high transaction costs.
