Ronin (RON)
Ronin is an EVM-compatible blockchain built for gaming and consumer crypto applications. Its native token, RON, powers the Ronin ecosystem and is used for core network functions such as paying transaction fees, supporting validator incentives, and participating in the chain’s security model.
The network was developed by Sky Mavis, the company behind Axie Infinity, one of the earliest blockchain games to reach a large global audience. Ronin was created to give games a faster and lower-cost environment than general-purpose blockchains during periods of heavy user activity. That gaming-first focus remains central to its identity: Ronin is designed for frequent, low-value transactions such as in-game asset transfers, marketplace activity, token swaps, and player rewards.
RON plays a similar role to gas tokens on other smart contract networks. Users need it to transact on the chain, while validators and delegators use it within the network’s staking and security framework. The token also connects to the broader Ronin economy, which includes games, wallets, decentralised exchanges, NFT marketplaces, and other applications built for players and developers.
Ronin’s distinctiveness lies in its specialised focus on crypto gaming rather than purely financial use cases. By combining Ethereum-style smart contract compatibility with infrastructure tailored to game studios and high-volume consumer activity, it aims to make blockchain interactions less costly and more seamless for mainstream users. RON therefore represents exposure to a gaming-centric blockchain ecosystem whose success depends on developer adoption, player engagement, and the continued growth of on-chain game economies.
