ADT (ADT)
NYSE Market Closed
ADT Inc. provides security, monitoring, and smart home services for residential and small business customers in the United States. The company operates under the ADT brand, one of the best-known names in the security industry, with roots that trace back to the American District Telegraph business. Its core offering combines professionally installed equipment, 24/7 monitoring, customer support, and digital tools that allow users to manage security systems from mobile devices.
ADT’s services typically cover intrusion detection, life-safety monitoring, video surveillance, access control, and smart home automation. For homeowners, the company sells systems that can include door and window sensors, motion detectors, cameras, smoke and carbon monoxide devices, smart locks, and connected thermostats. For small businesses, ADT offers security and monitoring products designed to protect commercial premises, employees, inventory, and equipment.
The company’s business model relies heavily on recurring monthly revenue from monitoring and service contracts. This creates a subscription-like profile, while new customer additions, retention rates, installation activity, equipment costs, and customer acquisition spending remain important drivers of results. ADT also competes with cable providers, technology companies, do-it-yourself security brands, and regional alarm companies, making brand recognition and service reliability central to its positioning.
ADT has increasingly emphasized connected-home features and app-based control as customers seek security products that integrate with broader smart home ecosystems. Its role in the market is therefore both as a traditional alarm monitoring company and as a provider of technology-enabled home and small business protection.
