AeroVironment, Inc. is a US defence technology company best known for small unmanned aircraft systems and loitering munitions used by military, government, and allied customers. The company designs platforms that extend situational awareness, reconnaissance, targeting, and precision-strike capability while reducing the need to place personnel directly in harm’s way. Its customer base is heavily tied to the US Department of Defense and international partner governments, making the business closely linked to defence procurement cycles and modernisation priorities.
AeroVironment’s portfolio includes hand-launched and tactical drones, autonomous systems, tactical missile systems, counter-drone solutions, and related training, sustainment, and support services. The company is also involved in advanced areas such as high-altitude pseudo-satellite technology, electronic warfare, cyber-enabled capabilities, directed energy, and systems that connect sensors, operators, and strike assets across multiple domains. These products are used for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, border and base security, target acquisition, and battlefield effects.
The company reports through business areas that cover uncrewed systems, loitering munition systems, and more advanced mission and warfare technologies. AeroVironment’s Switchblade family of loitering munitions has become one of its most recognisable offerings, reflecting a broader shift in defence markets toward portable, networked, and lower-cost precision systems.
