Warrior Met Coal, Inc. is a US mining company focused on metallurgical coal, also known as steelmaking coal. The company produces high-quality hard coking coal used by blast furnace steelmakers as a key input in the production of coke, which is then used to make steel. Unlike thermal coal, which is burned mainly for electricity generation, metallurgical coal is tied more directly to global steel output, infrastructure investment, construction, automotive production, and industrial activity.
Warrior Met Coal’s operations are based in Alabama, where it develops and mines underground coal reserves. Its principal mining assets include Mine No. 4 and Mine No. 7, with Blue Creek representing an important growth project for the company. The business uses longwall mining methods, a mechanized underground technique designed to extract coal efficiently from large panels. The company also has natural gas-related operations associated with removing methane from coal seams, which can improve mine safety and create an additional sales stream.
The company sells most of its coal into export markets, with customers across Asia, Europe, and South America, as well as some domestic US demand. As a result, its earnings are closely linked to seaborne metallurgical coal prices, freight conditions, steel industry cycles, and global trade flows.
Warrior Met Coal stands out from diversified miners because of its narrow focus on premium metallurgical coal. That specialization can create strong cash generation when steelmaking coal prices are elevated, but it also leaves the company exposed to commodity price volatility, labor availability, mine development execution, and shifts in steel production technology.
