L3Harris Technologies (LHX)
NYSE Market Closed
L3Harris Technologies, Inc. is a US defence and aerospace contractor that supplies mission-critical communications, electronics, sensors, space systems, and weapons-related technologies to government and commercial customers. The company is best known for secure software-defined radios and tactical communications equipment, a franchise that remains important to modern military operations where resilient voice, data, and networking capabilities are essential.
Through mergers and acquisitions, L3Harris has expanded well beyond communications. Its portfolio includes uncrewed aircraft systems, avionics, electro-optical and infrared sensors, electronic warfare capabilities, space payloads, satellite-related technologies, missile systems, and solid rocket motors. The acquisition of Aerojet Rocketdyne added propulsion and energetics capabilities, increasing the company’s exposure to missiles, space launch, and strategic defence programmes.
L3Harris serves the US Department of Defense, intelligence agencies, civil government bodies, allied militaries, and selected commercial aviation customers. It also modifies and equips civilian aircraft for specialised military missions, provides training and simulation services, and supports communications infrastructure used by the US Federal Aviation Administration. This mix gives the company a role across air, land, sea, space, and cyber-related domains.
The company operates in a market shaped by defence budgets, geopolitical risk, technology modernisation, and long-cycle government procurement. Its products are often embedded in complex platforms and networks, which can create durable programme relationships but also exposes the business to contract timing, execution risk, and changing government priorities.
For investors, L3Harris offers exposure to defence electronics and advanced military systems rather than traditional commercial manufacturing. Its distinguishing feature is the breadth of its mission technology portfolio, spanning battlefield communications, sensing, space, aviation systems, and propulsion.
