Moderna, Inc. is a biotechnology company built around messenger RNA, or mRNA, medicines. The company became globally known after its COVID-19 vaccine demonstrated the speed and scalability of mRNA technology, moving Moderna from a platform-stage biotech into a commercial vaccine producer.
Moderna continues to apply mRNA across infectious disease, oncology, rare genetic disease and other therapeutic areas. Its research model uses mRNA instructions to direct cells to produce proteins that can trigger immune responses or address disease biology. The company’s pipeline includes multiple clinical programs, and its commercial prospects depend on vaccine demand, new product approvals and the ability to extend mRNA beyond COVID-19. MRNA is therefore both a biotech platform investment and a test of how broadly mRNA medicines can be commercialized.
