Liverpool FC stake (private equity exposure)

Buy: exposure to a Liverpool minority-stake deal via a dedicated sports/football private-market vehicle or secondary shares if available. Rationale: a $6B+ valuation signals strong demand for Premier League assets; a minority investment lets FSG keep control while unlocking capital, which typically supports faster reinvestment and steadier performance. Key upside is multiple expansion if talks progress and valuation resets higher.

Key Risk: Deal collapses or valuation comes in far below $6B, leaving investors stuck in illiquid paper at a lower price.

Fenway Sports Group (FSG) leverage to deal flow

Buy: FSG-linked deal-flow exposure through public proxies—buy shares of companies that benefit from high-end sports ownership transactions (e.g., sports-rights/agency-adjacent platforms) rather than the club itself. Rationale: if Liverpool attracts a $6B+ minority investor, it validates the “elite English football” funding model and should lift activity across sponsorship, media rights, and advisory/transaction services. The thesis is that deal momentum increases revenue visibility for these enablers.

Key Risk: Premier League valuation enthusiasm fades and transaction volume drops, cutting off the revenue tailwind.

  • Amit Bhatia-led group eyes minority stake in Liverpool FC.
  • Liverpool could be valued at more than $6 billion in stake talks.
  • Fenway Sports Group confirms interest from investor consortium.

Liverpool Football Club could be valued at more than $6 billion as a consortium led by Amit Bhatia explores the purchase of a significant minority stake in the Premier League club, according to a Financial Times report.

The investor group, which is backed by the Mittal family, is in active discussions with Liverpool's owner, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), over a potential transaction.

The report said the consortium has hired advisers to work on the proposed investment.

If completed, the deal would rank among the highest-valued transactions in football history and reflects the continued global appeal of Premier League clubs.

People familiar with the discussions told the Financial Times that negotiations remain ongoing and no agreement has yet been reached.

Fenway Sports Group confirms consortium's interest

Fenway Sports Group confirmed that it has been approached by the consortium led by Bhatia.

“An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club,” FSG said in a statement to the Financial Times.

Bhatia declined to comment on the reported discussions.

According to people familiar with the talks, there is no certainty that a transaction will ultimately be completed.

Bhatia is the British-Indian co-owner and chairman of Queens Park Rangers.

He is also the son-in-law of steel billionaire Lakshmi Mittal. The Mittal family is also involved in sports through the Rajasthan Royals franchise in the Indian Premier League.

Potential deal highlights demand for Premier League assets

A valuation exceeding $6 billion would place Liverpool among the most valuable football clubs globally and underscore the continued demand for investments in English football.

Fenway Sports Group acquired Liverpool in 2010 and has overseen a period of on-field success during its ownership.

During that time, the club won two Premier League titles and secured its sixth UEFA Champions League trophy.

FSG had also explored building a multi-club football ownership model, similar to structures developed by Manchester City's City Football Group and Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

However, the group reportedly abandoned those plans earlier this year.

The reported minority investment would allow FSG to bring in additional capital while retaining ownership of the club.

Liverpool joins list of high-value sports franchises

Liverpool has attracted several prominent investors during FSG's ownership.

The ownership group includes investors such as RedBird Capital Partners, LeBron James and Maverick Carter.

In a previous transaction, US sports investment firm Dynasty Equity reportedly paid up to $200 million for a stake in Liverpool that represented less than 4% of the club.

The latest talks suggest investor interest in elite football clubs remains strong despite rising valuations across the sports industry.

If completed, the transaction would value Liverpool at more than $6 billion, making it one of the largest football club valuations on record.
