Helium (HNT)

The network originally focused on low-power Internet of Things connectivity through LoRaWAN, allowing sensors, trackers, and other connected devices to send small amounts of data over long distances. Helium has since expanded its ecosystem to include additional wireless markets, including mobile connectivity, with separate network components and incentive structures. HNT is the core token of the Helium economy and is used alongside Data Credits, which are consumed when devices use the network. This burn-and-use model is designed to connect token demand with real network activity.

Helium’s architecture has evolved over time, including a migration to Solana to improve scalability and make use of a broader smart-contract and wallet ecosystem. Hotspot operators can earn rewards for providing coverage, helping validate that coverage, and supporting data traffic, although rewards depend on network rules, location, hardware type, and actual usage. HNT’s market profile is therefore closely tied to the growth of decentralized physical infrastructure networks, the adoption of wireless services built on Helium, and the project’s ability to convert token incentives into reliable real-world coverage.
