Loopring (LRC)
Loopring is an Ethereum layer-2 protocol designed to make non-custodial trading faster and cheaper without giving up the security assumptions of the Ethereum mainnet. Its technology is built around zkRollups, a scaling method that bundles large numbers of transactions off-chain and submits cryptographic proofs back to Ethereum for verification. This allows trading and transfers to settle with far lower fees than on layer 1 while users retain control of their assets.
The project is best known for supporting decentralized exchange infrastructure. Loopring can power both automated market maker trading, where users swap against liquidity pools, and order book trading, which more closely resembles the structure used by professional exchanges. That combination is important because it gives developers and market makers a way to build applications that are non-custodial but still practical for high-frequency activity, tighter spreads, and more advanced trading strategies.
LRC is the native token of the Loopring ecosystem. It is used in the protocol’s economic design, including incentives and participation in network activity, and it has historically been linked to fees, staking, and governance-related functions. Loopring also offers wallet and exchange products aimed at making Ethereum-based self-custody easier for everyday users.
Its main role in the crypto market is as a scaling and exchange protocol that sits between centralized exchanges and slower layer-1 decentralized finance. By using zero-knowledge proofs, Loopring seeks to provide a trading experience that is efficient, transparent, and resistant to custodial risk.
